Students will be given the opportunity to attend a 90 minute lesson in each of the courses that they have been offered. Subject to places available, they may be able to join another subject that they are considering if their timetable for the two days permits. Students will be set work from the subjects that they attend that is for completion during July and August to help bridge the gap between GCSE and A Level and get the courses off to a good start. The added benefit is that each student will have a much clearer idea of the course content and demands in order to decide if it is the right course choice for them. We will issue a booklet with a summary of all the work set so that students
can attempt work from other courses that they are considering. This approach will help ascertain the right students for the courses during the interviews on the 22nd August.

The Mathematics Faculty have arranged for Professor Alan Davies who is the area coordinator for the Further Mathematics Support Programme and a lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire. The session gives insight into the world of Mathematics and how Further Mathematics can shape your fu ture career and how effective it can be in helping students receive offers from top universities such as the Russell Group.

The session is mainly for year 11 students who have chosen Mathematics as one of their options and who are considering or have also chosen Further Mathematics at Edmonton County School or any other schools or college for September. This is a 60 minute session held in the Conference room at Cambridge Campus on 26th June 2013 from 5pm to 6pm.

Over the two days, students need to wear the Sixth Form Dress Code. To summarise it is smart office wear; no jeans, trainers, leggings or sports clothing permitted (except for during Sport or PE practical sessions, students should bring appropriate items to change into if either of these subjects are included in the offer). Please contact the Sixth Form Team if further clarification relating to this is required.

Students will be at all times expected to adhere to the high standards of behaviour expected as a Sixth Former and appreciate that they are role models for the younger members of the school community. They will be allowed the privilege of leaving site on the Thursday for lunchtime (12.45-1.25pm) but it is their responsibility to be back in time and outside the classroom door before the afternoon session begins. On Friday lunchtime we hold a BBQ for the attending students and staff who have delivered the sessions, lunch will be provided free of charge and it will be served by our current Sixth Form students.

I hope you are looking forward to making the most of the opportunities offered through our Bridging Programme; it is an exciting time which opens the doors to so many possibilities for the future. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Yours sincerely,
Ms Hamill
Director of Sixth Form/Deputy HeadTeacher

P.S. If you are joining us on the trip to Paris (26th -28th September), don’t forget to hand in any missing items such as the European Health Card. The trip is now full but if any places become avail-able due to a student dropping out and you are interested in being on the reserve list then pass your name to Mrs Heather Williams (Bury Campus Administrator).
