The Geography Department is a strong and successful department in the school and gains very good examination results at both GCSE and A Level. The subject is taught as a separate discipline throughout the school by a team of four specialist geographers. Geography is a popular option at GCSE and A Level. There are two specialist rooms on each site.

We aim to:

  • Deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons on the ‘big’ issues facing humankind.
  • Develop students’ spatial awareness and foster a global outlook.
  • Develop students’ skills in enquiry, decision-making and geographical investigation.
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills by applying them in different geographical contexts.
  • Offer relevant and timely fieldwork that enables students to apply their geographical understanding to the real world.

Last year 78% of students achieved A*-C at GCSE with 35% of these students achieving an A or A*. At A-Level 100% of students achieved A*-C grades.

Geography at key stage three is focused on promoting an enthusiasm and passion for the subject whilst equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful.

Students are exposed to a range of physical and human geography schemes of work through this key stage. Each topic is chosen to challenge and excite them during lessons.
