Interested in being a School Governor?

ECS – Governor application form | ECS Co-opted Governor application form

Do you have?

  • An interest in the future of the children at ECS?
  • A desire to make a difference?
  • A readiness to accept responsibility?
  • An ability to work as part of a team?
  • A willingness to ask questions and learn?

If the answer is “yes”, you may be interested in becoming a parent Governor at ECS School.  Being a governor is an important part of achieving a well-run and effective Governing body. Following our successful Ofsted inspection, we are looking for parents and community members who will help the school achieve ‘Outstanding’ at our next inspection.

What is a Governing body?

Governing bodies are responsible for setting the long term aims and objectives of the school, and supporting the Executive Headteacher and her staff to achieve those.  Volunteering to become a governor can be hard work, but it is very rewarding and a great way to contribute to the local community, meet new people and help improve the lives of local children. It is also a way of learning new skills as well as putting your existing skills to good use.

Do I need any special qualifications?

No, what we need are people who can give a bit of time and who are willing to make a commitment. You need to be able to attend the main governing body meetings, one per term, as well as sit on a subcommittee, again, one meeting per term as well as some pre reading. You will need to have an open and enquiring mind, be able to listen and make informed judgements, join in debate and ask questions, and be willing to work with the other members of the governing body in shaping the future of the school.

What can we offer in return?

You get the chance to develop strategic management skills

Work with a team of established governors in helping to provide support and challenge to improve the school

Regular training opportunities

A sense of achievement in making a difference to ECS and helping students achieve their potential

How do I apply?

If you would like an informal chat first, you can contact Mrs J Wilson who can make arrangements for you to talk with an existing governor or otherwise please complete the relevant application form which is below or please contact Miss R Taylor to request a copy.
