‘Not to know what took place before you were born, is to remain forever a child’ (Cicero)
History is a tool of learning and communication looking at people and their progress over different periods of time. It plays a key part in our understanding of the development of the modern world. The skills pupils develop through the study of history are applicable to everyday life.
‘He who forgets the lessons of the past is condemned to repeat them’
We aim to deliver a high-quality history education which will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We want to inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past, ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. We also want to give our students a lifelong love of History by delivering engaging and interesting lessons that challenges them to look at the world from a number of different perspectives.
