Overview

BTEC National in Health and Social Care – Extended Certificate that is equivalent to one A level. This is a vocational course that prepares learners for the world of work and for a career in the health and social care sector. If GCSE Health and social care has been taken before, at least a Merit grade is required.  GCSE English Grade C min.  Learners will become familiar with different roles in the field and will have to show their understanding through 2 internal assessment (written coursework) and 2 external assessment (exams). The main focus will be to demonstrate understanding of how service users should be treated by the professionals.  You will also have an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding through practical activities such as group presentations and group tasks such as role plays.  Another key emphasis of this course is how effective you are as an independent learner able to stick to deadlines.   Also it will give you a good feel for what it is like to be an employee in any sector as the course will help you develop skills in IT, time management, team work, and communication and research skills.
