We aim to develop and improve the students’ skills (particularly in hand-eye co-ordination) in drawing, painting, printing, sculpting, computer-aided design and photography along with the understanding of artists, photographers and crafts persons and the context in which these works were made.
We wish to foster an enthusiasm for Art/Photography and the History of Art/Photography through exciting and challenging lessons and topics studied, and help every single child studying Art/Photography at ECS develop into a well rounded individual. Students study a range of artistic media. They attend art/photography clubs, workshops and galleries. The department embraces modern art/photography based on strong drawing skills and the understanding of camera techniques.
Over the years both Art and Photography, with our emphasis on creativity, have been popular option choices at GCSE and AS/A2 levels. We are a hard-working department and our students achieve excellent grades in both subject areas.
On Wednesday 11th November (Bury students) and Wednesday 25th November 2015 (Cambridge students) Year 9 Art students were lucky to have an all day paint workshop in the art rooms with current portrait artist and former ECS student Aaron Illsley.
