Welcome To Edmonton County Sixth Form, Educating our community for success.
Head of Department:
Ms S Jimenez
To gain an A Level the student should have studied for and been assessed on their performance in their AS units (this is expected not compulsory). For A Level the students must complete work for Component 1 which consists of a personal project that is supported by a 1000 – 3000 word essay. Component 2 is the exam. Unit 1 and 2 are worth 50% of the final A level grade.
Life drawings (One day workshop) are expected components of both AS and A Level Art portfolios.
Photography students are expected to attend the Richard Ash workshop (a professional photographer who works at the Imperial War Museum)
Many of our students take both courses. The Art student will work in the areas of painting and drawing, printmaking and sculpture and use photography and computer aided design to help as a research tool. The Photography students will learn how to use a DSLR camera, Adobe Photoshop and the differences between Commercial and Fine Art Photography. Both Art and Photography students should acquire key skills in the use of Information Communication Technology. There are opportunities to visit galleries and exhibitions and for outside artists/photographers to come in to speak to the students. We encourage the students to go to galleries independently and with the school. We have an open door policy and encourage sixth formers to use the Art/Photography rooms in their own time. All Art/Photography teachers are happy to help students in their Art/Photography work.
For further information please speak to Mrs S Jimenez, Head of Art, Expressive Arts Faculty.
