Welcome to Edmonton County School

Dear parents, carers and guardians,

Welcome to Edmonton County School.

We are a good school with an exciting future. We are proud of the increasingly varied opportunities we offer the young people who make up our school. The goal of everyone is to ensure that your child does better than they think they could. We want your child to be happy and successful. We want them to enjoy school and thrive in a rich learning environment. I am proud to lead a school where governors and staff work together to provide the best education possible for the students from the community we serve.

Certainly this means academic success in the public examinations that form such an important part of everyone’s future. Our aim is that your child should do better than they thought they possibly could and that we always achieve “added value”. For the staff and governors at ECS excellence in examinations is your child’s right and we want to do more than this.

My staff know and value each individual student and this leads to a very high standard of behaviour in school and in the community; where support is needed we pride ourselves on our excellent links with parents and agencies that work with us to help every child to succeed. We are proud of the friendly caring environment of our school where good manners and high standards of behaviour are expected.

Teachers have very high expectations, set clear objectives for learning and ensure that lessons have an interesting range of tasks, including opportunities to share and extend students’ understanding. Students are well aware of what to do to improve through self-assessment, and regular marking and feedback from their teachers. Students are assessed regularly and we use this information to personalise learning, and will ensure that your child has the necessary guidance to help them to improve.

We aim to provide your child with the opportunity to develop their talents both in class and beyond. We offer an impressive programme of extra-curricular activities in sport, music, with trips and visits both at home and abroad.

Our school council is integrated into the running of the school. They regularly contribute to school policy and staff appointments. Our students work hard at school and at home because they know that excellent effort and assignments are rewarded. A strong home-school partnership is vital if young people are to succeed. Regular contact forms the basis of our relationship that aim to provide young people with consistent and unified support.

Our mission is ‘Learning and Achievement for All’. We build on our ancient motto ‘Non Nobis Solum’: Edmonton County is proud to serve the community and we work ‘not for ourselves alone’.

We will be delighted to welcome you to our school. Students will show you around the school and either one of my senior team or I will be available to answer your questions.

We look forward to meeting you.
