UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge

Recently 46 students from Year 9 and Year 10 took part in the UK Intermediate Maths Challenge set by the UK Mathematics Trust.  The challenge was very difficult and involved problem solving of a range of mathematical situations.

Particular congratulations go to Mehmet Kaynar (Year 10) who was awarded ‘Best in School’ after achieving a high score of 74.  Three of our students received a Gold Award, 3 Silver and 9 Bronze in this year’s UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge, which saw over 235,000 pupils from across the UK sit this important National challenge.

Due to their excellent high scores Mehmet Kaynar, Yasin Kaynar and Curtis Williams took part in the Intermediate Kangaroo Challenge.

Well done to all students who participated and congratulations to all students that were awarded certificates. Below are the names of students who received certificates in the challenge:

UPDATED: Strike action cancelled on Tuesday 14th October 2014

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week I told you that we have been informed by Unison, GMB and Unite Trade Unions that there will be a day of strike action on Tuesday 14th October 2014. The dispute is with regards to the rejection of the level of Local Government Pay award for support staff.

I have assessed the possible impact of this action at our school and have decided that the school will be open as normal.

However, because of the action of members of these unions the following services may be affected:

  • There will be some teaching assistants who are striking so your child may not have the usual support in class;
  • Food services will operate but may be limited;
  • The office and administration systems will be operating on a reduced service so it would be appreciated if calls were kept to a minimum. Any phone call may take longer to answer. Emails will not be answered as we will prioritise maintaining reception service.

We will endeavour to keep the school running as normally as possible but hope that you appreciate that some services may not operate as well as usual.

The school will open as normal on Wednesday 15th October 2014.

Yours sincerely

Dr S M Tranter

Executive Headteacher

Term starts Friday 5th September

Term starts for the students on Friday 5 September 2014.

Please do not send your child to school before these times; we are arranging the day in this way so that we can welcome Year 7 to the school when it is quiet. They need to learn their way around the school and get to know their routines without other students in school. We hope that by having this shorter induction for Middle and Upper phases that the whole school will be ready to start lessons at 8.30am on Monday 8 September 2014.
