30 June 2016

Dear parents & carers

Closure on Tuesday 5th July 2016

We have been informed by NUT Trade Union that there will be a day of strike action on Tuesday 5th July 2016. The dispute is with regards to demands for the Secretary of State for Education to ‘increase funding to schools and education, guarantee terms and conditions for teachers in all types of schools, and to resume negotiations on teacher contracts to allow workload to be addressed’.

The NUT has informed me that a number of their members will be on strike and therefore having assessed the operational issues in opening the school with significantly fewer staff, I have decided that the school will be closed to students on Tuesday 5 July 2016.

This decision has not been taken lightly and we regret having to take this action but feel that there will not be sufficient staff in school to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children.

Our sincere apologies for the difficulties that these arrangements will cause parents/carers but unfortunately these are circumstances beyond our control. The school will open as normal on Wednesday 6th July 2016.

Yours sincerely

Dr S M Tranter

Academy Status Update

Dear parents and carers,

you may be aware that the current Government has a policy that all schools should become academies. This means that the school is free from Local Authority control and has all of the money allocated to it by central government.

You may also be aware that schools across the country, and particularly in London, are facing very significant budgetary challenges because the amount of money they get has been significantly cut. All of the headteachers of Enfield secondary schools have met with local MPs to outline their concerns.

Please take the time to download the following two documents and read them carefully:

Easter Holidays

Dear parents and carers

The spring term ends on Friday 27 March 2015 and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a pleasant spring-time. I hope that you have some time to spend with your friends and family over the Easter period. Of course, our Year 11, 12 and 13 students will be busy preparing for their examinations!

On Friday we say farewell to several staff. Ms Lauren Mack is leaving after fulfilling the maternity leave contract, Ms Francine Quaicoe is leaving from the SH&D faculty, Ms Lucy Blincoe is leaving from the Languages Faculty and Ms Vineta Mitchell is leaving to begin teacher training. We thank our colleagues for their service to the school and wish them well in their careers.

Term resumes on Monday 13 April 2015 and will continue to the half-term break that begins on Monday 25 May 2015.

The Police have asked me to inform you that there are three dispersal Zones being implemented during this week. Palmers Green and Enfield Town are in place on Friday 27th from 8am to 8pm. There is also a dispersal zone around Southgate station and along Chase Side throughout this week too.

I wish you all a safe and peaceful break.

Yours sincerely

Ofsted Report December 2014

You can download the latest copy of our Ofsted report here: ecs-ofsted-report-december-2014

Excerpt from our Headteachers letter regarding our Ofsted report in December 2014:

“Our Ofsted report, from the December inspection, is published on the Ofsted website and I am required to provide you with a copy (attached). I hope that you will be pleased and satisfied with the progress that we have made since the last inspection. The inspection regime is much ‘tighter’, the standards are much higher and the expectations greater so we are pleased that the progress we have worked hard to bring about is being recognised. There are two main issues for us – essentially those areas which we need to work on in order to become ‘Outstanding’ (and that’s the goal by the next inspection) – and they are to improve the consistency across the school and to ensure that the least able progress at the same rate as others. If you wish to discuss the Ofsted report with us, please contact your child’s Student Manager or you can email me any comments you have via info@edmonton.enfield.sch.uk
