UKMT Junior Maths Challenge

Recently 51 students from Year 7 and Year 8 took part in the UK Junior Maths Challenge set by the UK Mathematics Trust.  The challenge was very difficult and involved problem solving of a range of mathematical situations.

Particular congratulations go to Emily Ravetto (Year 8) who was awarded ‘Best in School’ after achieving a high score of 84.  Two of our students received a Gold Award, 8 Silver and 12 Bronze in this year’s UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge, which saw over 250,000 pupils from across the UK sit this important National challenge.

Able Gifted and Talented Mandarin Chinese Club

Nĭ hăo!

A group of our Year 7-8 pupils have successfully completed a weekly after school Mandarin Chinese language club taught by a local community teacher who is a native speaker.

Some of the topics and activities covered by the students were: fun ways to learn the Chinese alphabet; speaking and writing with Chinese characters; basic phrases including the months and  days of the week and they also learnt traditional numbers and greetings.

This exciting club also allowed the pupils to explore this rich language and discover a different culture at the same time. This was highlighted by one of the students who said, “I have really enjoyed coming along to the after school clubs, it was exciting and fun.”
