Year 11 Parent GCSE Support Evening

On Thursday 2nd February 7:00pm – 8:00pm the school will be running an evening for the parents of Year 11 students.

The evening is a chance for parents to find out what their son/daughter should be doing as they prepare for their GCSE’s and how they can be supported with this work at home. A formal invitation
will be sent out along with the latest student profile at the end of next week.

Mr S Kinson
Deputy Headteacher

Year 10 Work Experience

It’s important for year 10 students to be seeking a placement for their work experience, which will take place from 25th June to 6th July 2012.

The final deadline for submitting private placement forms is Friday 3rd February 2012 so time is now short.

Please encourage your son/ daughter to make it a priority to find a placement and hand in their completed form.

Many thanks for your support with this important landmark in the students’ learning.

Mrs S Hughes
Work Experience Co-ordinator

Welcoming in 2012

Dear Parents and carers,

Happy New Year!

I hope that you enjoyed a good holiday and managed some rest during this busy time.

This term we welcome Mr Matthew Greenwood to our Leadership team. Mr Greenwood will have responsibility for Jupiter House and be based at the Bury campus. We are grateful for Mr Goddard for having taken responsibility for Jupiter (Bury) over the autumn term.

We also welcome two new teaching assistants to the Inclusion Faculty. Antionetta Lungo and Peter Biosah.

We hope that all our new staff will be happy and successful at Edmonton County School.

Last evening we held our Presentation Evening. This was a very pleasant event, hosted by Mr Les Rockett (Assistant Head) who did an excellent job organising the evening. Our guest speaker was Dr Alison Mowbray who is an Olympic Silver Medallist in rowing. She delivered an outstanding talk that I hope will have inspired the audience of young people to excel and try new things.

Earlier this week the school was closed to students for staff training. All of the staff attended refresher Child Protection training. This is an important element of our training provision so that you can be assured that all those who have contact with your children have been vetted and trained. An important element of the training was internet safety; our advice to you is to ensure that the privacy settings on your computer and any social networking sites are set at the highest level. This is essential to prevent your child becoming the victim of cyber-bullying or grooming. If you need advice, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Student Manager.

I hope that this is a successful term for us all. Next week we will be releasing the Year 11 GCSE practice exam results – I am sure that Year 11 will be anxiously awaiting their results. We issue them to simulate the way it happens in August so that the students get some sense of the finality of the results!

Yours Sincerely,
Dr S Tranter
Headteacher
